Jann Saven

Jann Saven was born in 1966, in Cape Town and obtained a Bachelor of Arts (HONS) Jewellery at Middlesex University in London, UK in 1992. She has worked employed and independently as a jeweller and in an architectural practice for 20 years when she put her creative work aside.

In September 2023, Jann exhibited a sculptural body of work made of beached kelp and hemp twine; showcased in her studio gallery in Cape Town. This installation marked the culmination of her artistic journey and transition from jewellery to fine art.

In 2023, Jann was commissioned by the Sea Change Project, a globally recognised environmental education and advocacy NGO to create a kelp sculpture as an intervention for a video installation. The artwork is installed at De Hoop Nature Reserve, as part of an award-winning exhibition curated by Craig Foster and Petra Keene, called Origins of Early Southern Sapiens Behaviour. The intention of this installation is to create awareness for a shared environmental consciousness of the Great African Seaforest.

In 2024, Jann participated in the Plett Art Festival and the Bodhi Khaya Residency where she produced a site-specific performance piece combined with a land art installation.

Jann exhibited in a group show called Outside In – Inside Out in April this year and will participate in a group show at Glen Carlou Gallery in October.

Most recently,Sea Change Project commissioned Jann to create a new sculptural installation for Cape Point Visitor Centre.
