Erin Smith
Erin Smith is a South African artist from Gqeberha. Her practice explores mythology, environmentalism, and the interrelationships between humans and wider Nature, and she is interested in the intersection between art, conservation, and land rehabilitation. Erin prioritises working in line with an ecologically conscious ethos, making use of natural and organic found objects to create ephemeral, Earth-friendly artworks, often in site-specific contexts.
She recently completed her MA Fine Art degree (cum laude) under the ISCIA chair, during which she explored Earth-friendly artmaking techniques and how art and mythology might serve as reinforcement of humans’ innate interconnection with the broader natural world.
Outside of her own creative practice, Erin hosts occasional “Land Art Experiences”, in which she introduces groups of people to the concept of making art with the Earth and guides them through the process of making collaborative pieces of land art.
